Greater definition of life under Alert Level 3 has been welcomed by Venture Taranaki.

Greater definition of life under Alert Level 3 has been welcomed by Venture Taranaki, who note the delicate balance between reigniting economic activity and minimising the risk of Covid-19 gaining a foothold in our community.

“The Prime Minister’s announcement today has given welcome insight into what a potential next stage in our fight against this virus would bring,” says Venture Taranaki Chief Executive Justine Gilliland.

“Economic risks are that we develop a significant outbreak here in Taranaki, or that we spend the next months moving in and out of restriction levels. The former will impact significantly with a possible return to Level, while the latter offers no certainty for our business community going forward.”

“We therefore appreciate the need to retain many elements of Level 4’s restrictions while allowing more enterprises to re-open, with necessary health precautions in place.”

“While there are positive signals for the construction, manufacturing and food and fibre sectors, our retail and hospitality enterprises will be required to rapidly pivot to a digital and delivery mode of operation if they are to regain momentum under Alert Level 3, which we know some have been preparing for.”

“We are yet to learn when the nation will be ready to move to Level 3 or what Level 2 looks like, but can see both challenges and opportunities for businesses in Taranaki under such restrictions,” Justine said.
